Support Services For Caregivers And Their Elders

Mission Statement

img_0621As our elders age, so do we. It is very important to take good care of ourselves so that we can maintain good health when our elder’s health is declining. To bridge the gap between elders and their loved-ones, we are called to provide support to all in need, in the most appropriate and effective way. Through compassionate attention to all parties involved, we will provide personalized, individual care in order to improve the quality of life for all.

Background and Credentials

Velina’s 9 years of experience counseling families and friends of aging loved-ones as a social worker in senior communities, she has gained a great deal of knowledge around these issues and hope to bring that expertise to you. We care deeply for this growing generation and the challenges they and their families face today. Velina has obtained a Certification as a Holistic Stress Management Instructor which allows her the opportunity to bring her knowledge and expertise to large groups through speaking engagements, as well as one-on-one consultation and coaching. She studied at the University of Denver Graduate School of Social Work where she obtained a Certificate in Gerontology during my time in the field. Velina has worked with hospice and counseled families through the grieving process of losing their loved ones.  She counseled numerous families throughout the entire experience of having to admit a loved one into a nursing home. Velina continued on to earn an MA in Counseling from Naropa University. Her final year of internship was devoted to learning the Asian healing arts, focusing on healing massage, stress management exercises and learning how to bring this practice to her clients. She later trained with Mary Rose learning her Comfort Touch method designed for the elderly and ill and eventually earned her certification in massage therapy from Healing Spirits Massage Training Program.

Stress Management

We are here for you, so you can continue to be there for your loved-one. We are also here for your loved-ones, as they may be going through their own difficulties during their time of transition. In order to remain healthy and strong for your loved-ones, self-care is essential.  We offer group and individual training a well as assessment and treatment of pain and stress. Personalized self-care instruction includes evaluation and treatment of stress and pain, and simple, yet effective exercises to help manage your stress. The exercises can be done, sitting, standing, and even laying down. We also offer educational presentations for residents and families of senior communities covering the primary stressors of elders and their caregivers.

Healing Massage

img_0624For elders, simple, gentle strokes can ease physical discomfort from conditions like arthritis or osteoporosis, and help increase circulation to infrequently used muscles. It can also benefit those who suffer from Alzheimer’s disease or have had a stroke, as a means of communication. It helps to reconnect the elderly with bodies that have long ago failed them. For their caregivers, Velina’s massages are a very effective stress reducer, bringing deep relaxation to the mind as well as the body.

Massage can be done fully clothed and modified to each individual’s specific needs.
